Christmas gift pillow

I am so lucky to be part of a great sewing group! We just started our SewMod group early in 2010, and already the seven of us have become great friends that meet twice a month to sew, gab, eat, drink and laugh (a lot!)

After drawing names at our Halloween party, we exchanged our gifts at our Christmas party last weekend. Are you getting the message that we like to party?? This is the pillow that I made for Vicki of Accio Fabric...


Now Vicki is a girl who can sew anything, and she has a stash that would rival most established quilt shop's inventories, so I really wracked my brain to come up with something unique for her. One night in bed this idea just popped into my head, so I quick drew it in my journal... a potted Christmas tree constructed with diamonds - Brilliant!


My inspiration was this fun Alexander Henry Christmas print that I found at Jo-Ann's (if you can believe that!) I knew she would like the retro department store Santa scene with the fresh colors...

The quilting is simple - a diamond pattern echoing the pieced diamonds...

Here she is opening her gift. I think she likes it!

I had a very difficult time giving this one away because I think it turned out so stinking cute!!. It was a bit of a struggle for me to figure out how to size it perfectly and get everything pieced rather than just fusing the whole design. Lucky for you, I documented the whole process, and I'll be writing a pattern after the holidays, so you can make one for gift-giving (or keeping) next year when the holidays roll around.
